La necropoli scoperta in località Buffa costituisce una delle tre maggiori aree sepolcrali della città greca di Selinunte (Sicilia, TP). Posizionato a Nord-Est dell’insediamento antico, questo sepolcreto è stato oggetto di scavi estensivi da parte della Soprintendenza tra il 1963 e il 1967, restituendo più di mille tombe databili tra la fine del VII sec. alla fine del V sec. a.C. I contesti tombali sono stati interamente editi da Meola tra il 1996 e il 1998. Nella ricostruzione della pratica rituale proposta, due dati sorprendono: l’alta incidenza della cremazione secondaria e il numero esiguo di tombe sepolture infantili, per i quali non si hanno confronti nel quadro pratiche funerarie impiegate nella Sicilia greca. Il presente studio propone una rilettura di questi dati basata sul riesame delle informazioni contestuali.
The necropolis discovered in locality Buffa is one of the three major burial sites of the Greek apoikia of Selinus (Sicily, TP). Located northeast of the ancient settlement, this cemetery underwent extensive excavation by the Superintendency between 1963 and 1967, yielding more than one thousand graves spanning from the end of the 7th to the end of the 5th century BCE. Burial contexts were fully published by Meola between 1996 and 1998. Remarkably, from the reconstruction of ritual practices, two data points stand out: the high percentage of secondary cremations and the relatively low number of child interments, both lacking parallels in the burial customs of Greek Sicily. This paper proposes a reassessment of these data through a re-examination of contextual information.
