In questo lavoro si presentano dati editi e inediti relativi ai ritrovamenti effettuati nel territorio compreso tra il fiume Gela, ad Est, il fiume Dirillo, ad Ovest ed il Comune di Niscemi a Nord, nella Sicilia meridionale. L’area appare più popolata di quanto si pensasse, addirittura sin dal Neolitico medio, ma non ci sono attestazioni a partire dall’età del Bronzo finale, con una sola eccezione, fino all’arrivo dei Greci. I dati discussi consentono di formulare alcune, preliminari considerazioni sulle modalità di popolamento nella diacronia, anche in considerazione delle caratteristiche geografiche e delle risorse del territorio.

In this work published and unpublished data are presented on the findings in the territory between the river Gela, to the East, the river Dirillo, to the West, and the municipality of Niscemi to the North, in southern Sicily. The area appears more populated than previously thought, even since the Middle Neolithic, but there is no evidence from the Late Bronze Age, with one exception, until the arrival of the Greeks. From the data discussed it is possible to formulate some preliminary considerations on the distribution and systems of diachronic settlement, also in relation to the geographical characteristics and the resources of the territory.
